Been a looong time since i’ve posted an update and while I’m waiting on 30 hu tables and getting no action I figured this would be a decent time to write up a post.

sooooo i’ll start from the top with some quick hitters:

-WSOP Main event bust out is almost certainly going to be on TV. I got a call from someone at ESPN who asked if I was the guy who got knocked out by Brad Garret (Everybody Loves Raymond) and it’s true. The TV cameras raced over when I got it in on the turn with his straight better than my set. Jason Alexander aka George Costanza was also at the table. If you’re a friend on facebook, this is of course old news. Anyway the table was super soft and I ran bad and that was that. It’s going to be pretty embarrassing to be on TV getting knocked out by that guy and having him shout to the cameras “dont pair the board” or whatever. The tournaments were pretty disappointing for me this summer but the vast majority of the time tournaments are going to be disappointing. The only saving grace was at least I busted out on Day 1 instead of Day 4 like Ariel and still not making any $.

-The dog has fully recovered from his surgery. So far there has been no personality change, which is good.

-I played much less poker in the last week than I normally would. It was really nice to have a little bit of a break. I had some big swings this month but ended up running bad at like 5/10 but running good at 25/50 so it still ended up to be a good month despite some stressful stretches. I’ve only coached an hour or two since vegas which has been realllllyyyy nice. I think I’m getting to the point where I’m ready to really scale back the amount of coaching I do. Both from an hourly rate perspective and a burnout perspective, it’s probably better if I focus my mental energies on just playing myself. Any current students I have I’ll still coach but I’m going to hold off on new ones for the time being.

-While I was scaling back my hours playing poker I started playing Fallout 3 for PS3. I think I beat it in like 5 days or something. It wasn’t overly amazing but I did enjoy it. I like how you have quite a bit of flexibility with your character alignment (good/evil) and the story isn’t too linear. I really miss good RPGs from the days of the Final Fantasy series for NES and SNES but I guess that dates me a bit :) I was pretty surprised to go into the game store down the street and have them tell me there really aren’t any good RPGs out at all for PS3. I get a little tired of button mashing games but I did pick up Street Fighter IV to also relive one of my favorite SNES games. Perhaps next I’ll go for the latest Madden or NCAA football games if I can’t find an RPG/Adventure title that is good. I guess I could always get back into WoW but that game lends itself a bit too much to wasting time away.

-I saw the movie the Hangover last night. It was hilarious and I highly recommend it. I generally don’t like comedy movies but I thought the Hangover was funny throughout the whole thing. Definitely some “raunchy” and “shock” humor but overall it kept me laughing through the whole thing, which I can’t say for too many movies.

I guess that’s it for now

    1. At least you’ll get some sweet face time :) (and you already mentioned the bust out in a previous blog of yours)

    2. I too have realized I want to focus more on myself and less on coaching.

    3. Beat Fallout 3 on 360. Thought it was pretty good. Not an all-timer, but good while it lasted.

    4. I recently saw The Hangover as well. Def A+ stuff there. “I didn’t know they gave out rings at the holocaust?”

I think metacritic is pretty good at rating various things…Elder Scrolls IV is the highest rated RPG for the ps3 - a few points higher than Fallout fwiw:

I liked Fallout 3 a lot. It wasn’t as good as 2 was when I played it 6 years ago or whatever, but I still thought it was as good as it could be for a AAA must-sell-millions title, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. I sort of wish games that play upon the good-evil dichotomy had more gray area in the story, though.

Also, glad to hear your puppy’s doing well. :)
